Hello,
I would like to introduce you to an exciting program at Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre.
The federal government introduced the Federal Internship for Newcomers Program for the Greater Victoria area last year. The Federal Internship for Newcomers Program (FIN) provides valuable short-term Canadian work experience with a federal government department in areas such as policy analysis, administration, project management, and IT, just to mention a few. The internships are 90 days in duration with the possibility of being extended for further 90 days, depending on funding availability and employment needs of the federal department involved. The FIN program also provides newcomers with the opportunity to learn about the Canadian workplace culture, and about the nuances of hiring processes within the government. VIRCS is the only agency to do the pre-screen in Vancouver Island.
In preparation for this year's FIN Program, our Skills Connect Program will offer two information sessions:
Thursday, May 3rd - 2:00pm to 3:30pm
Friday, May 4th - 9:30am to 11:00am
Potential candidates are encouraged to attend one of these sessions. Both sessions will take place at the Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society (VIRCS). They will address topics such as eligibility criteria, application procedure, pre-screening interviews and related-timelines. These information sessions will also be a meaningful opportunity for potential candidates to obtain first hand tips on how to increase their chances of successfully completing the application process.
Interested participants will be pre-screened by the Skills Connect team at VIRCS for job readiness and other mandatory eligibility criteria (see attached info sheet). Formal pre-screening interviews are expected to happen between May 7th and 11th, at VIRCS.
Candidates interested in attending one of the information sessions are kindly asked to register in advance by contacting James Sultanum (james@vircs.bc.ca) or Mirko Kovacev (mirko@vircs.bc.ca), by Tuesday May 1st.
