PROVINCE ANNOUNCES NEW REGULATIONS FOR EYEWEAR IN B-C Mar 19, 2010
IN HOPES OF MODERNIZING THE WAY BRITISH COLUMBIANS GET THEIR GLASSES AND CONTACT LENSES--THE PROVINCE HAS INTRODUCED A SERIES OF CHANGES TODAY TO EYEWEAR REGULATIONS.
HEALTH MINISTER KEVIN FALCON SAYS WITH ADVANCES IN TECHNOLOGY AND MORE CONSUMERS TURNING TO THE INTERNET, IT MAKES SENSE TO MODERNIZE A DECADE OLD SYSTEM.
CHANGES THAT WILL BE MADE INCLUDE
- ALLOWING PEOPLE TO ORDER GLASSES OR CONTACTS ONLINE WITHOUT HAVING TO THE GIVE THE SELLER A COPY OF THEIR PRESCRIPTION .
- ALLOWING PRESCRIPTIONS ISSUED BY MEDICAL DOCTORS AND OPTOMETRISTS OUTSIDE OF B-C TO BE FILLED HERE.
- REMOVAL OF MOST OF THE RESTRICTIONS ALLOWING ONLY OPTICIANS OR OPTOMETRISTS TO DISPENSE GLASSES OR CONTACTS.
- OPTICIANS WILL NOW BE ABLE TO INDEPENDENTLY CONDUCT SIGHT-TESTS FOR CLIENTS AGED 19-65--THIS ELIMINATES THE EXTRA STEP OF HAVING TO GO TO AN OPTOMETRIST FOR YOUR PRESCRIPTION.
THE CHANGES WILL BE EFFECTIVE STARTING MAY 1ST.
